Description
Harry Clarke (1889-1931) was a leading figure in the Irish Arts and Crafts movement and is best known for his stained glass designs and book illustrations. This collection concentrates on his limited work for various publications. His psychedelic, with a hint of the grotesque, black and white line work incorporated the most detailed and intricate textures. This established him as one of the leading illustrators of the early 20th century.
His first published work was Fairy Tales by Hans Christian Andersen, although he had previously been working on illustrations for Coleridge’s Rime of the Ancient Mariner but the illustrations were destroyed in Dublin’s Easter Uprising of 1916. A number of commissions followed including among others The Fairy Tales of Charles Perrault, Faust and probably his best known work for Poe’s Tales of Mystery and Imagination.
This unique collection contains 113 pages of Clarke’s illustrations. The images have been cleaned and restored by our studio and are presented in a specially produced PDF ebook. All of the illustrations are embedded in the PDF ebook in high resolution (300 dpi, large file size) for high quality print reproductions or to copy and use in your own projects
